The Book of Psalms is of a collection of one hundred and fifty prayers, poems and hymns. About half of the psalms are attributed to David, but it is unknown whether he was actually the author. Some of the psalms were composed for liturgical use in the temple, others were for private reading; in some the singer is an individual, in others a group. The word psalm comes from a Greek word psalms, meaning "a poem to be sung to the accompaniment of stringed instruments."
The Book of Proverbs, like the books of Job and Ecclesiastes, is considered to be one of the books of Wisdom Literature. It is a collection of several collections of sayings that deal with many practical matters of daily life as well as one's relationship to the Lord.
Ecclesiastes, also called The Preacher, is one of the books of Wisdom Literature. The name is from the Greek ekklesiates meaning "convener of an assembly." The author may have been Solomon, lamenting the emptiness of his riches.
