The Gospel According to Saint Matthew is the first book of the New Testament. It is believed to have been written by Matthew, a tax collector and one of the Twelve Apostles.

The Gospel of Saint Mark is the shortest Gospel and probably the first. The author is thought to be have been an associate of Peter and Paul. Eerdmans Handbook writes, Matthew is formal and stately. Mark is bustling with life; full of acton. Matthew collects Jesus' Sayings. Mark concentrates on the marvelous things Jesus did, and the places he went to.

The Gospel According to Saint Luke. Luke, a Gentile physician, was an associate of Paul. He gave us the most complete account of Jesus that we have. This book is the first in a two part account written by Luke, The Acts of the Apostles being the second.

The Gospel According to Saint John. John the Apostle, a fisherman and the brother of James is most often cited as the author of this Gospel. Nelsons Bible Dictionary writes, John is a "spiritual" gospel -not because it is more spiritual that the other three -but because it expresses spiritual ideas in spiritual language.
