To use OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks on a supported portable device not listed above, you must first download OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks to your computer and then transfer them to the device using OverDrive Media Console. How do I download OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks?

After installing OverDrive Media Console and checking out a title, download the title as follows…

On Android…

  1. Select the title's 'Download' button.
    OverDrive Media Console for Android opens and the title is displayed in the Library.
  2. Select the title.
    A message is displayed asking if you would like to download Parts.
  3. Select 'Yes'.
    The 'Details' screen is displayed.
  4. Select the individual Part(s) that you would like to download or select 'Download All' to download all Parts. Download progress is displayed for each Part.
  5. When the download is complete, select Menu > Player on the 'Details' screen and select the 'Play' button to play the title.

On BlackBerry…

  1. Ensure that the device has an SD card installed. Without an SD card installed, OverDrive Media Console for BlackBerry will not run.
  2. Select the title's 'Download' link.
    You are prompted to save the ODM file for the title.
  3. Select 'Save'.
    The 'Downloads' screen is displayed and the ODM file is saved.
  4. Select the ODM file.
  5. Click the 'Menu' key.
    The Menu is displayed.
  6. Select 'Open'.
    OverDrive Media Console for BlackBerry opens and displays the title in the Library.
  7. Select the title.
    A message is displayed asking if you would like to download Parts now.
  8. Select 'Yes'.
    The title's Parts are displayed.
  9. Select the Part(s) that you would like to download and click 'Download' or select 'Download All' to download all Parts. Download progress is displayed for each Part.
  10. When the download is complete select Menu > Close.
    The Library is displayed.
  11. Select the title to play it.

On iPhone…

  1. Select the title's 'Download' link.
    OverDrive Media Console for iPhone opens and the title is displayed in the Library.
  2. Select the title.
    A message is displayed asking if you would like to download Parts now.
  3. Select 'Yes'.
    The 'Parts' screen is displayed.
  4. Select the individual Part(s) that you would like to download or select 'Download All' to download all Parts. Download progress is displayed for each Part.
  5. When the download is complete, select 'Library'.
    The Library is displayed.
  6. Select the title to play it.

On Windows Mobile…

  1. Select the title's 'Download' button.
    The 'Download' dialog box is displayed.
  2. Check the 'Open file after download' checkbox in the 'Download' dialog box.
  3. Click 'Yes' to download and open the ODM file for the title. The ODM file is a small file that opens OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile and begins the download process.
    OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile opens and prompts you to specify a download location.
  4. Click 'OK' to accept the default file location, or click 'Browse…' to specify a file location.
  5. Select the Part(s) you want to download. By default, all Parts are checked.
  6. Click 'OK' to start downloading the Part(s) you have selected.
    The 'Download' dialog box closes, and the file download begins. Download progress for each Part is displayed at the bottom of the screen. When the first Part has finished downloading, click the 'Play' button to play the title.

How do I play OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks using OverDrive Media Console?

On Android, BlackBerry and iPhone…

  1. When at least one Part has finished downloading, go to the 'Library' screen in OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Select a title in the Library.
    The 'Player' screen is displayed and the file begins playing.

On Windows Mobile…

  1. When at least one Part has finished downloading, select the title.
  2. Click the 'Play' button in OverDrive Media Console.
    The 'Media Explorer' window is displayed and the file begins playing.

How do I skip to specific points in OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks?

You can navigate directly to a desired point in a title using 'Parts' and 'MediaMarkers'. For ease of download and use, many OverDrive titles are divided into Parts, and Parts are then divided into logical sections (such as chapters for audiobooks). The beginning points of these logical sections are MediaMarkers.

Use MediaMarkers as follows…

On Android…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Select a title in the Library.
    The 'Player' screen is displayed.
  3. Select 'Contents'.
    The title's Parts are displayed.
  4. Select a Part to display its MediaMarkers.
  5. Select a MediaMarker to start play at that point in the Part.

On BlackBerry…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Select a title in the library.
    The 'Player' screen is displayed.
  3. Select Menu > Contents.
    The title's MediaMarkers are displayed.
  4. Select a MediaMarker to start play at that point in the Part.

On iPhone…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Select a title in the Library.
    The 'Player' screen is displayed.
  3. Select 'Contents'.
    The title's MediaMarkers are displayed.
  4. Select a MediaMarker to start play at that point in the Part.

On Windows Mobile…

  1. Open OverDrive Media Console for Windows Mobile.
  2. Select a title in the Media Library.
  3. Click the 'Play' button.
    The 'Media Explorer' window is displayed and the file begins playing.
  4. Select View > Navigation.
    Parts are displayed on the left-hand side of the window, and the MediaMarkers for the selected Part are displayed on the right-hand side of the window.
  5. Select a Part to display its MediaMarkers.
  6. Select a MediaMarker to start play at that point in the Part.

How much free disk space do I need to have in order to download OverDrive MP3 Audiobook titles?

OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks titles are delivered in Parts, with each Part generally not exceeding 40MB in size. As long as your device has at least 40MB of storage space you should be able to transfer a single Part or more to it.
